3Natural-V.P.A.M. Templates & Slot Navigation
Mathematical structures display in authentic textbook formatting with underlined placeholder slots (■). You can move deterministically through any structured template on desktop:
- Tab (Tab / Shift+Tab): Jumps directly to the next or previous slot within the active template (e.g. numerator ➔ denominator, lower limit ➔ upper limit ➔ expression, or derivative expression ➔ evaluation point).
- Vertical Arrows (▲ / ▼): Inside a template, jump directly between upper and lower slots (e.g. denominator ➔ numerator, lower limit ➔ upper limit, or derivative x₀ evaluation point ➔ expression).
- Horizontal Arrows (◀ / ▶): Move character-by-character through slot text, enter adjacent slots, and smoothly exit the template when reaching the outer edge.
- Comma (,): In multi-slot templates (such as nth-root, custom log, derivative, integrals, Pol, Rec, RanInt), typing a comma advances to the next slot or steps out.
- Close Parenthesis ()): In functions and templates, typing ) completes the current slot and steps out of the template.
- Nested Expressions: Templates can be arbitrarily nested (e.g. square roots or fractions inside integrals, powers inside fractions). Cursor navigation traverses in and out of each nested level cleanly.
4Calculation History Recall & AC Behavior
- Up Arrow (▲): Outside of active templates, recalls previous calculations from history onto the display, moving backwards toward older entries.
- Down Arrow (▼): Outside of active templates, navigates forward through history toward more recent entries. It does not clear your expression line.
- AC followed by Up Arrow (AC then ▲): Pressing Esc / Delete (AC) clears the screen, and pressing ▲ immediately restores the previous calculation and its evaluated result from history.
- Natural Math History Recall: Recalled structured expressions are always reconstructed in clean Natural-V.P.A.M. formatting (internal system syntax like
__diff__is never exposed). - Error Diagnostics & Recovery: If a syntax or mathematical error occurs, pressing Esc (AC) cancels the error display, while pressing ◀ or ▶ returns the cursor to the exact error location in your expression for editing.
5Fractions, Roots, Powers & Display Formats (S⇔D)
- Natural Fractions (
a b/ckey): Inserts a two-slot fraction■/□. Typing a number beforehand auto-populates the numerator and places the cursor into the denominator. - Mixed Fractions (
Shift + a b/c): Inserts a three-slot mixed fraction: Whole, Numerator, Denominator (e.g. 3 1/2). - S⇔D Toggle (D or
S⇔Dkey): Instantly converts the evaluated answer between fractional form (7/2) and decimal form (3.5). - Fraction Format (Shift+F or
Shift + S⇔D): Switches fraction representation between improper fraction (d/c, e.g. 7/2) and mixed numeral (a b/c, e.g. 3 1/2). - Roots & Powers: Square root (r /
√), cube root (Shift + √/∛), n-th root (Shift+R /ⁿ√), powers (^ /xⁿ), square (x²), cube (Shift + x²/x³), and reciprocal (x⁻¹). - Scientific & ENG Notation: Key
